I’m going to assume/ hope that this is about a Stargate movie and not his own project (Starcrossed) using the SGU sets (which I would still watch though).  If so, then it is most likely the movie which Brad Wright and Robert C Cooper had been planning to make after the show got cancelled but was shelved because they couldn’t get their act together in time (source).  Or maybe it is a different Stargate movie that will properly end SGU and SGA?  I don’t know but I am super excited to find out what’s up with this.  Hewlett bought much of the SGU sets after its cancellation and had them put in storage so a return to the Destiny in some way seems very possible now.  I guess the franchise may not be dead after all!

What do you think is going to happen?

The Save Stargate Universe group on Facebook (with over 76 thousand people in it) is beginning a letter writing campaign to both MGM and Netflix to try and convince them to bring SGU’s crew out of stasis and put them back on Destiny for a third season.  You can check out the event page here:  https://www.facebook.com/events/205797526202559/

Its very simple, they already have 2 letters written for you to send (one for Netflix and one for MGM) full of evidence for why the show would likely be very successful on Netflix instead of the traditional (flawed) TV model fuelled by live audiences.  All you have to do is mail them both and share the event page with other Stargate / sci-fi fans!

SGU is one of my favourite sci-fi shows ever and the way it ended (along with the Stargate franchise) really bothers me.  I would love to see it return and unless SYFY gets their shit together, I think Netflix is our best chance at seeing that.  So give this campaign a chance.  You never know, maybe Netflix will listen to us.  They listened when people begged for Arrested Development season 4 years after the original series had endeed and now that is currently in production for release online sometime next year!

Remember the original Stargate movie starring James Spader and Kurt Russell that kickstarted the TVshows?  Well, creators Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich are now interested in making sequels to that film, almost 20 years later.  Devlin said to the Hollywood Reporter,

Stargate has always had this empty hole.  When we made the first one, we always intended on doing part two and three, and we were prevented for years. And our hope is that we can get another chance at Stargate and tell the entire story we wanted to tell.”

Hmmm, but after 3 different TV shows (SG1, SGA and SGU) expanding that universe immensely, it will be interesting to see whether they set their new Stargate films in the same universe or not.

Though I thought the TV shows were MUCH better than the original film, I think this is great news!  If those movies can be successful, maybe MGM will see that there is an audience for another Stargate show or maybe they will complete the SGA and SGU movies that they had at one time promised us!  At this point, any Stargate news is good news!  Now lets see what is announced at Comic-Con this week.

Though the franchise is currently dead (though apparantly something is going to be announced at Comic Con next week), footage of the cancelled SG1 video game, “The Alliance” was posted online last month and damn does it look cool!

Though the graphics aren’t amazing compared to today’s standards (remember this game was being worked on way back in 2005), the gameplay looks pretty solid and fun and being able to walk around the SGC shooting up bad guys would have been so cool!  The game’s story was supposed to revolve around a battle against an alliance of Anubis and the Haakan, a new species made for the game.

Its a shame the game was never completed due to legal reasons, I would have totally played it!  Hopefully the rumors of a new SG1 game are true (see the link near the top) but we’ll have to wait for Comic-Con to find out!

Random question of the day!  With Prometheus less than a month away and several great looks at the ship, I’m wondering how the Prometheus matches up against our other great ships.

So, what is your favourite looking spaceship?

For me, it is a toss-up between “Serenity” from Joss Whedon’s Firefly and “Destiny” from Stargate: Universe but they are all pretty awesome in their own ways.

Here are pictures of each ship listed to help you decide (I tried to keep it to the most well-known ship from each franchise so there wouldn’t be a billion options in the poll).  The Poll is below all of them.

Serenity:

Destiny:

Battlestar Galactica:

USS Enterprise:

Millennium Falcon:

SSV Normandy SR-1:

Planet Express Ship (why not):

Lexx:

TARDIS (yes it is a spaceship, not just a time machine):

Andromeda:

Moya:

Prometheus:

I tried to add as many of the best ships that I could think of.  If you have a different answer, vote as other and comment below why you chose that.
